Book Name: Destiny of Shattered Dreams

Author: Nilesh Rathod

Publisher:  Rupa Publications

Blurb:

An insider’s view into what goes on behind the glittering façade of corporate stardom, Destiny of Shattered Dreams is a fast-paced tale of a brilliant young man’s meteoric rise at business. It is also a moving portrayal of love and its fallibility.

Ambition, passion and raw courage are Atul Malhotra’s key aides to realizing his dreams as he learns the art of gambling for high stakes. What follows is a game of treachery, infidelity and murder. The book lays bare the sordid corporate-politico nexus that compels this once middle-class boy to deftly learn the ropes and negotiate a world where dirty deals and power plays can make or break lives, where one wrong choice could prove fatal.

A tale of yachts and hidden Swiss accounts, sordid affairs of lust, intrigue and exhilarating highs, Nilesh Rathod’s Destiny of Shattered Dreams is also the story of innocence forever lost.

Review:

Time is not permanent. Present becomes past and future becomes present. It’s a vicious cycle.

Atul is the main character of this story. Destiny of Shattered Dreams is a story of his career, his relationships, his dreams – in one word his life. When you have/own a certain thing, you know its price. But when you earn/achieve it you know its value. Life has never been fair for Atul. A troubled and deprived childhood was all that he had. Whatever he was today, was a fruit of his hard work and dedication. Setting up Transmech Telecom Limited (TTL) wasn’t a cake walk for him. He had struggled hard to make himself what he was. It is said that one wrong step is enough to ruin all the good things. Atul too falls for it and takes a wrong decision – a decision which affects his relationship with his wife Roshni, his girlfriend Aarti, his company, his dreams. What decision was it?

Reading the blurb made me think this book to be of the kind where the male protagonist would find himself in a problem and then he would struggle hard to bring himself out of it. As I read the book further, I was declared wrong. I was proved wrong. The story is different from what you imagine it to be. The story has been plotted in such a way that there are no loopholes. The timing and arrangement of all the events are next to perfect. The characters have been crafted well. Each character is different from each other (and yes, there are many!) I believe each one has been allotted fair share in the story. The simple yet engaging narration coupled with Hindi verses in between makes the read an enjoyable experience.

Likes:
  • Atul’s dedication towards his company.
  • Atul’s relationship with his friends and Aarti.
  • The Hindi verses.
