Blurb:

Ishita Singh, a student of St. Pierce’s College, Mumbai was living a pretty normal life with her group of friends, a caring senior and scarily enough, a creep who followed her.

Underlying the lives of the two in completely different worlds, there lies a dark secret which was partially blacked out in some corner of Shweta’s memory and unknown to Ishita. Will they ever come to know about the secret or will it be so chilling that it won’t be worth living for?

Story in a nutshell:

Ishita is a college student leading happy life with her parents and friends. She has joined St. Pierce’s College with a hope of living and making her life better. She has moved on with her life, thinking of her past relationship to be a good memory. But, her ex-lover hasn’t. He keeps following her to every place she visits. Review:

I had just one word “Wow!” for this novel. I am amazed by the author’s story-telling skills. He knows what part of the story to deliver when. He presents the simplest things in a very interesting manner. This makes you wonder whether you are ready some exciting part of the story. It keeps you hooked.

The story has been plotted well. The author has paid attention to all the details. He has kept in mind all the aspects before bringing this story out on the paper. He has done a lot of research. You will know it once you read the book.

The story has been narrated in third person narrative. I liked the simple and lucid language. The narration has a personal touch to it which makes you feel home. You will instantly feel connected with the characters. This story has been written from heart. There aren’t any twists and turns. This book is like dal – adequate amounts of all spices (emotions) and the cereal has made it just perfect.

Reasons why you should read this book –
  • -        New and interesting plot. It has a love angle to it. Not like those clichéd novels.
  • -        Excellent narration
  • -        Amazing transition in between the two worlds. Not for one second would you disbelieve in what you read.

Road to Cherry Hills takes us into the world of Rimjhim, as she walks down the memory lane to her campus days where she meets Ankit, falls head over heels for him and thought her life has changed forever. Of course it did, but in the most unexpected ways, as she soon finds her life taking a completely different turn. That willpower which we all have but we are only one step away to realise it. The story narrates her trials and tribulations, her dilemmas and achievements, her darkest fears and her deepest desires as she embarks on a journey of self-discovery.

Being raised by her aunt, Rimjhim trusts her completely. She falls in love with Ankit and her life changes all together. How does her life change?

Review

The cover of this book depicts a road with greenery all around. It goes perfectly well with the title of the story.

This story is about Rimjhim. I love reading books which have strong female characters and this is story has not just one but two of them. Yes, one is Rimjhim and the other one is her aunt. The author has built the characters really well. You will fall in love with them the moment you start reading. Their chemistry is depicted really well.

The story has been narrated in third person narrative. It has been done really well. It is simple and engaging. The language is lucid and easy to comprehend.  The pace of the story has been moderate. It is neither too fast nor too slow. The chapters have been rightly placed. The book will keep you interested in it throughout the reading session.

Reasons you should read this book –
  • -        Engaging story line
  • -        Motivational. This book depicts the power that lies in every woman.
  • -        True love can happen to you at any time. It doesn’t see time nor your status. It just happens.
  • -        This book tells you that many people come in your life. Some give you good experiences while some bad lessons.

A New Dawn by Kamini Kusum – Book Review

Shravan is a son of a rickshaw puller and Mugdha, daughter of a Railway officer. He has lived in penury while she has had all the material comforts. He dreams of being a soldier and serving the motherland while she lives in the world of colours. Childhood friendship converts into pure love ignoring the boundaries of a bungalow and its servant quarter. However fate has some other plans and tears apart the two innocent souls, throwing Shravan into a life that has thorns all its way. Will the two live their dreams? Will destiny bring them together again? A novel that will make us believe that life is all about never giving up.

Story in a nutshell

Does love see your financial status? No. Isn’t it? Shravan and Mugdha have been friends since their childhood. They enjoyed each other’s company. They did not realize when this childhood friendship turned into love. The only thing they knew was to be there for each other and spend their lives together. Will their love succeed or will their financial status meddle with their lives?

Review

I generally abstain myself from reading love stories. The reason being that all of them have a common plot and most of them are very predictable. The blurb of this book caught all my interest. It didn’t seem to be those clichéd love stories. It is short, simple and good enough to make you feel interested.

The story begins with Shravan and Mugdha becoming great friends of each other and then, slowly traverses into their adulthood. Shravan is a man of substance. He faces many hardships in his childhood. He tastes adulthood right in his childhood. But, he doesn’t give up on his dreams. He is determined and hopeful. At the same time, life for Mugdha is a piece of cake. Being born to rich parents, she has never seen what poverty is! Her only concern is that she wishes to become a painter and her parents are strictly against it. It is Shravan who identifies her passion and supports her. Over time, they fall in love with each other. They part their ways. Does destiny bring them together again?

I loved the way the author has crafted her characters. They are determined, courageous and will move out of the way to achieve their dreams. There are moments in their lives where you begin to wonder whether they are giving up. But they do not lose hope. This is something we should look forward in this book – the strong characters.

Next, the language is really simple. The narration is quite engaging and is done well. The author has named the chapters thoughtfully. It gives you a faint idea about what the chapter could bring to you. I believe, it is this style of naming chapters which keeps you hooked on to the book. You will feel like reading the book at one go.

Things that I did not like about this book –
  • -        The typesetting. The font size is very small. It becomes difficult to read the book.
  • -        Book cover. It could have been designed better.

Reasons you should read this book –
  • -        The strong characters
  • -        A new story-line. The climax of this story will leave you surprised.
  • -        Engaging narration

My rating:
Cover: 2/5
Characters: 3.5/5
Story: 3/5

My overall rating for this book is 3.5/5 stars.
