Review:

Sensual Attractions is a collection of 10 stories each belonging to erotic genre. Each tale is woven intricately with an end that will leave you surprised or shocked. It’s one you either surprised or shocked. It’s one amongst the boldest book I have read.

Friendship Pact
What will you do for your best friend’s happiness? Meet Sonali and Tara – childhood buddies. They were neighbours and hence, grew up together. The bond of friendship strengthened over time and they became inseparable. They agree upon a pact and name it friendship pact. What was the pact all about?

Perfectly plotted tale coupled with incredible narration makes ‘Friendship Pact’ an awesome read. The manner in which the intimacy is narrated will surely leave you in awe. A story which will have your toes curled! The mystery too is well maintained.

Rating: 4/5 stars.

The Plot Thickens!
Is wealth and property more important than any person’s life? Malathi plans the murder of her step-daughter, Deepa. She believes killing Deepa would open her doors to all of Deepa’s wealth. Is she successful in killing her?

Another awesome creation. How wicked Malathi gets over time is astonishing. Yes, I did feel bad for Deepa but I was also sure that nothing could go wrong with her. Lucid language, and a thrilling end makes ‘The Plot Thickens!’ a spicy treat.

Rating: 4/5 stars.

Corporate Espionage
President’s position was vacant. Praful and Ranjit were amongst the contenders for this position. They, have always been at dagger’s drawn with each other. Who will win this corporate race?

Politics at work hasn't been a new story to us. Add some politics, some mystery, some sex and some revenge. The by-product is ‘Corporate Espionage’.

Rating: 3/5 stars.

The Hotel-I and The Hotel-II
A crime scene has been discovered in the hotel where Poonam works. All the staff members are interrogated but no conclusion has been derived. Poonam receives a phone call from Mohan, a security camera and music expert who tells her about the evidence. The evidence reveals many secrets of the employees.

A story having excellent mystery. This story proves that ‘jo dekhta hain jaroori nahi ki wo waisa hi ho’.

Rating: 4/5 stars.

Love Jeopardy
Love Jeopardy is a story of young girl falling for an aged man. This man happens to be her professor. Professor-student relationship is usually considered as a sleazy affair. Are Anita and Rajan successful in saving their relationship from being tainted?

The moment I read this story, the following lines came into my mind.
“If you love someone truly, set them free. If your love is true, he’ll return back if not you know where you stand.”
Love Jeopardy is a story that will fill your heart with emotions. The explicit make-out scenes will leave you moist for sure.

Rating: 4/5 stars.

Emotional Conflict
Tanisha comes from a conservative family. She is married to Aadesh who doesn’t treat her like his wife. The family is hiding something from Tanisha. Is she successful in knowing the secret?

This story shows you the mirror to the society we live in. It talks about gay relationships. It also talks about the physical desires of a women. The narration is in first person and probably the reason why the intimate scenes seem to create a terrific effect.

Rating: 3.5/5 stars.

The Prodigal Family
Lakshaman is the only son of a wealthy business man. It is made sure that he receives good education. He is being sent to an island where he learns horse riding, the art of making love and some other self defense techniques.Upon returning from the island, he seems lost for he has fallen in love with a girl residing on that island. He is assigned a duty by his father. Does Lakshaman prove to be a dutiful son?

This story reminded me of the era of kings and queens. Perfect narration in simple and engaging plot makes this story a good read.

Rating: 3.5/5 stars.

Perilous Liaison
Rejendra and Aparna have a young girl named Akansha who is studying abroad. Rajendra own a huge business which would have been destroyed if Vishwas hadn’t entered their lives. Can a complete stranger whose name means trust be trusted?

Betrayal, danger, extra-marital affair, loss – were the words that kept resonating in my mind when I read this story. A thrilling one, indeed!

Rating: 4/5 stars.

Friendship Pact Returns
The pact that was decided between Sonali and Tara has a gruesome effect on their lives. What is this effect?

A story that has shocked you right from the beginning of the book will have the same impact on you when you read this one! Perfect mystery!

[Ask N Answer] Interview Session with Aditti Gaur

Aditti Gaur - Authoress of Adhira

1. Hello Aditti Ma'am. It feels great to have you here today. Congratulations on publication of your novel.

Thank you.

2. How would you describe yourself
(A) as an authoress?
(B) as a wife?
(C) as a mother?

An authoress who plays the character of a mother and a wife in her real life.

3. Could you brief us about your book - Adhira? What is your book all about?

Adhira’s story is about different people living altogether. This book is about her journey of struggles, achievements, responsibilities, passion & love. About how she lost her love and found it again? A story where she realizes that sometimes silence is a powerful indication of something being terribly wrong.

4. The name of your protagonist is Adhira. It's a very unique name. What does it mean? Why did you choose this name?

Adhira means restless. This name is very close to my heart as well as her name justifies her life itself. Her restless life, her careless attitude towards herself adds more meaning to her name.

Adhira - Cover Picture

5. I could make out from the blurb that Adhira is a strong, brave girl. I also learnt that she puts other's wishes before hers. Don't you think such people are often taken advantage of, often taken for granted? What are your views on the same?

Yes, we as a human took that person for granted who cared the most for us. We should respect and value the person who care for us, protect us & love us. We should try to spend some time with them to make them feel special.

6. When did you decide to write Adhira's story? How did you go about with the writing?

I had a strange habit of writing fictional scenes in my diaries since my school days. One fine day, my husband got one of those diaries and he encouraged me to write a story. That’s how the journey of Adhira started. Now, that strange habit turned into a full-fledged story writing.

7. What was your reaction when you were being told about the selection of your manuscript?

I was happy because I knew that I have to opt for self-publishing.

8. Your book is in pre-orders. It's going to be released soon. How does it feel?

After the debacle of my debut book which now I pronounced as 1st edition of Adhira, I gave up and decided to quit. But my friend and my husband forced me to re-publish Adhira, again. Tushti & Sandeep supported me thoroughly and that’s how Adhira’s 2nd version has seen the light of the day. I owe a lot to Tushti, Sandeep & Ashish (My husband). As far as we have received 200 pre-orders and I feel ecstatic to know that my readers have poured out their love for Adhira and nurtured her the way I have been doing since so many years. Excitement is running high as the launch date is coming much nearer each passing day.

9. Enough of book-related questions! My next question is - insecurities pop up in almost every relationship. Do you think being insecure in a relationship is a good thing? How can one cope up with these insecurities?

The more we love someone the more we get insecure and the more we get insecure the more we hurt ourselves. So, when you love someone make sure you use your insecurities in a positive way. So that your beloved knows the hidden possessiveness behind your love. Doubts and lack of faith creates insecurities in every relationship. We should learn to love enough so that there will be no scope for insecurities and doubts remain in a relationship.

10. It is said that *trust is like an eraser. It grows smaller after every mistake. * It is also said that *trust is like a glass. Once broken, you can't repair it. * Which one among these two quotes do you feel is true and why?

I don’t believe in either one of them. I know it becomes very hard to trust the same person who once broke your trust. But, love has a supreme power to conquer all our insecurities, doubts, trusts & hatred among people.

11. Tell me the first question that comes to your mind when you hear -
(A) Life – When we will be able to live the life we want?
(B) Love – Why don’t terrorist start loving humanism?
(C) Friendship – How could my BFF knows exactly what’s brewing in my mind?
(D) Trust -  Will a person ever be able to trust again on the same person who broke their heart?
(E) Adhira – How could one person be so self-less?

12. Tell me the first word that comes to your mind when you hear -
(A) Life – Best teacher
(B) Love – Blessing of God
(C) Friendship – Food for soul
(D) Trust -  A delicate thread
(E) Adhira – A walking inspiration

13. Would you like to say something to your readers?

Write from your heart put your soul in your story and have faith in your dreams.
Keep pouring your love for Adhira.

I had a nice time with you, Aditti Ma'am. All the best for Adhira. I hope to see it in bestseller's chart soon. Thank you.

Pleasure is all mine, Divya. I really enjoyed talking with you.

Review:

This story has been written from heart. You will not find any manipulations done to the plot. The story is rich in emotions. There are moments where you will smile and a few will make you cry.  However, I felt that a few incidents were exaggerated. The pace of this novel was steady. The narration has been done in third person. I feel if it was done in first person, it would have created more emotional impact on the minds of the readers. The novel seems exciting at the beginning but kind of loses its charm in between. However, as you reach the end it builds up that interest in you again. The language is simple and the story touches the heart. Shagun, the protagonist, is the brave girl and you will surely learn many lessons from her.

Likes:
  • Shagun’s dedication towards her studies.
  • Shagun’s love for her father.
  • Shagun’s love for Vikrant.
  • Shagun’s and Arihant’s relationship.

Dislikes:
  • There are a few grammar mistakes.
  • I personally did not like the death scene.

I rate:
Cover: 2.5/5
Characters: 3/5
Story: 3.5/5

My overall rating for ‘Daddy’s Little Girl’ is 3.5/5 stars.

Book Review: Destiny of Shattered Dreams by Nilesh Rathod

Destiny of Shattered Dreams - Cover Picture

Book Name: Destiny of Shattered Dreams

Author: Nilesh Rathod

Publisher:  Rupa Publications

Blurb:

An insider’s view into what goes on behind the glittering façade of corporate stardom, Destiny of Shattered Dreams is a fast-paced tale of a brilliant young man’s meteoric rise at business. It is also a moving portrayal of love and its fallibility.

Ambition, passion and raw courage are Atul Malhotra’s key aides to realizing his dreams as he learns the art of gambling for high stakes. What follows is a game of treachery, infidelity and murder. The book lays bare the sordid corporate-politico nexus that compels this once middle-class boy to deftly learn the ropes and negotiate a world where dirty deals and power plays can make or break lives, where one wrong choice could prove fatal.

A tale of yachts and hidden Swiss accounts, sordid affairs of lust, intrigue and exhilarating highs, Nilesh Rathod’s Destiny of Shattered Dreams is also the story of innocence forever lost.

Review:

Time is not permanent. Present becomes past and future becomes present. It’s a vicious cycle.

Atul is the main character of this story. Destiny of Shattered Dreams is a story of his career, his relationships, his dreams – in one word his life. When you have/own a certain thing, you know its price. But when you earn/achieve it you know its value. Life has never been fair for Atul. A troubled and deprived childhood was all that he had. Whatever he was today, was a fruit of his hard work and dedication. Setting up Transmech Telecom Limited (TTL) wasn’t a cake walk for him. He had struggled hard to make himself what he was. It is said that one wrong step is enough to ruin all the good things. Atul too falls for it and takes a wrong decision – a decision which affects his relationship with his wife Roshni, his girlfriend Aarti, his company, his dreams. What decision was it?

Reading the blurb made me think this book to be of the kind where the male protagonist would find himself in a problem and then he would struggle hard to bring himself out of it. As I read the book further, I was declared wrong. I was proved wrong. The story is different from what you imagine it to be. The story has been plotted in such a way that there are no loopholes. The timing and arrangement of all the events are next to perfect. The characters have been crafted well. Each character is different from each other (and yes, there are many!) I believe each one has been allotted fair share in the story. The simple yet engaging narration coupled with Hindi verses in between makes the read an enjoyable experience.

Likes:
  • Atul’s dedication towards his company.
  • Atul’s relationship with his friends and Aarti.
  • The Hindi verses.

I rate:

Cover: 2/5
Characters 3.5/5
Story: 3.5/5

My rating for Destiny of Shattered Dreams is 4/5 stars.

[Ask and Answer] Interview Session with Geetha Paniker

Geetha Paniker - Author of When I Fell In Love With Life

1. Hello Geetha Aunty. It's pleasure to have you here today. Please introduce yourself to readers.

There's nothing much about me, except that I am a teacher turned homemaker who questions everything that the mind can reason.

2. Your book 'When I fell in love with life' is indeed inspiring. Your book must have touched a number of hearts. How does it feel?

I really don't know if my book has touched many hearts. It does feel great to know that it has inspired a few.

3. What is 'inspiration' according to you?

Inspiration to me is the inner spark within, which helps me move on in spite of all the challenges life hurls at me.

4. What touches you more- poetry or short stories?
When I Fell In Love With Life - Cover Picture
It is poetry that touches me the most.

5. When did you feel that you need to tell your story to the world?

I started writing about my experiences with cancer in a blog. But the need to tell my story to the world triggered off when I accidentally found my diary in which I had poured out all my thoughts during my treatment.

6. There might be some moments when you might have broken down. What did you do during those moments? What kept you going?

During my traumatic moments I turned to music and reading for solace. The thought that kept me going was the fact that I had to be a fortress of strength to my family who would have other wise crumbled down.

7. They say talking/sharing your grief with your loved ones lessens it. Do you think its true? And why?

I was not one to share my emotions at that particular time, I used to keep it to myself. Yes, sharing does lessen it because it makes your heart and mind lighter. And it does help to move on.

8. What is writing to you? Have you ever faced writer's block? What did you do to overcome it?

Writing to me is a way of easing my burdens. I pour out my thoughts on paper and for that I have to thank my father who inculcated the habit of diary writing.
I do face writer's block often. Then I divert my mind to reading books. But mostly nature inspires me.

9. Are you working on your second book? If yes, give us some insights to it.

Right now, not thought of a second book. I do have a few poems and stories.

10. What would you like to say to your readers?

I am an average human being who goes through all the lows of life. Yes I am positive and don't allow the negative vibes to dwell in me. I fight my blues because I hate to be a victim of self pity. I find my strength and inspiration to rekindle my inner spark in nature around me.

Review: Go Clown #AccheDin for Comedy! by Shatrugna Vadwlas

Go Clown - Cover Picture

Book Name: Go Clown #AccheDin for Comedy!

Author: Shatrugna Vadwlas

Blurb:

When Baby Kiriti arrived in this world, he was like a lost butterfly in a sea of white. A baby who is born and thrust into the huge sea of humanity called India, rides and steers his destiny ship, as he constantly grapples with the Clown inside him, who meanwhile brings out his own set of funny oars in these troubled waters.

The Clown’s journey continues on from a Karma-Guru to a trader of special water from Europe (thanks to his Made-in-China friend!), and from a music director (the Bad-Boy theme!) to the founder of a school, and a dirty sock to a sex-crazed, horny bunch of young fellas. The colors of the Clown’s comedy are different but he always plays to the circus of life. As Kiriti encounters a wide array of characters from the length and breadth of India, a land as rich as its flavours, the carefree years full of joy and young hopes come to an end, with the sweet smell of Ganja still lingering under the starry nights. The philosophy of Meaning is preached, after a session of holy smokes, on the sides of a dusty highway which sees blood and grime daily.

And finally with the Mystical Game which casts a shadow on Kiriti’s life having been won, everything is laid to rest under a blanket of white, only to be stumbled upon by a Sherpa on the peaks of the mighty Himalayas that wakes up something inside of his adorable son!

Is it a Thief, his Dream or the Clown?

And there is a 2000 year old Surprise Gift with the Novel! (Any Guesses?)

Review:

Go Clown #AccheDin for Comedy! – As the name suggests, this book comes under the Comedy genre. I believe that it is very easy to make the reader emotional but very difficult to make him laugh. This book achieves it. You will certainly have a good laughter.

The story is about Kiriti and his life. The Clown is a frequent visitor and it is he who steals the show. The plot is different and completely unpredictable. You think of something that could possibly happen and the book surprises you with different incidents. The humor is the plus point of this book. This book will surely remind you of the mischief you did during your childhood. You will also feel nostalgic about your college days.

The narration is in third person and instantly engages the readers for its simple and lucid. Though the story is spread across 300 pages (approx), you won’t feel bored when reading it. The ‘curiosity’ factor remains intact until the very end.

If you are looking for some humor, some thought provoking story, Go Clown will be the most suitable book for you.

I rate:
Cover: 2/5
Characters: 4/5
Story: 3.5/5

My overall rating for Go Clown is 3.5/5 stars

Book Review: That Thing Called Love by Tuhin A. Sinha

Book Name: That Thing Called Love

Author: Tuhin A. Sinha

Publisher: Rupa Publications

Blurb:

That Thing Called Love is a novel that explores the complexities of love and the different factors impacting relationships. The story is set in Mumbai during the monsoon season.
Mayank, Anil and Vishal work for a leading matrimonial website. For three guys working on a match-making website, their own love lives are far from ideal. Mayank Sahai, the ad-sales manager of the website, finds it difficult to identify the perfect match for himself. Vishal is consistently unfaithful to his wife. Anil’s wife is still unloading emotional baggage from a past relationship onto him.
Mayank begins to realise how trivialised relationships have become in contemporary society. Couples complicate their lives by fixating on small problems and misunderstandings without trying to work out a compromise.
However, Mayank still refuses to give up his dream of finding a soul mate. Unfortunately, when he does come across a woman who seems to be the one he is looking for, she is already married. Still, they enter into a relationship without knowing or even thinking about where it will lead and how it will affect their lives.

Review:

I picked up this book from my town library for I found the blurb interesting. I started reading it as soon as I reached home. I finished reading this novel in three hours and here I am with my review.

The story has two main characters- Mayank and Revathi. Mayank is a working for a matrimonial site and has been recently engaged to a girl named Nikita. He is having second thoughts about getting married to her for he still feels and thinks about the only relationship of his life - Shweta. Revathi is a married lady and has a daughter. She is working with very famous Shagun: An ultimate destination for wedding shopping. She is having differences with her partner. Yes! A troubled marriage. What happens when Mayank and Revathi meet each other? Who falls in and out of love?

The blurb seemed to be very interesting but the story wasn't up to that mark. The story has been narrated very well. The flow of events and their narration is really good. The thing that is missing in this one is 'connectivity'. I did not feel connected with the characters. The story also mentions about the life of Mayank's friends which I felt were dumped into this story for the heck of it. Just when Mayank's and Revathi's story grew interesting, his friend's story spoilt all the excitement. Also, the story has no mentions about his friends' lives towards the end.

Likes:

  • Mayank's expressive behaviour.
  • Pranav's and Revathi's love story.

Dislikes:

  • Arun's gay encounter (I didnot find it was necessary to detail his encounter with Aakash.)
  • The ending (No proper closure was provided for many incidents.)

On the whole, I would like to conclude saying that 'That Thing Called Love' could have been made better.

I rate:
Cover: 3/5

Book Review: The Colour of Love by Jagdish Joghee

Book Name: The Colour of Love

Author: Jagdish Joghee

Publisher: Notionpress

Price: Rs. 199

Story in a nutshell:

The story revolves mainly around 2 characters - Sarfaraz and Meghna. The Colour of Love is their love story. As the name of the characters tell you, Sarfaraz is a Muslim guy and Meghna a Hindu girl. They meet during their college days and become best buddies. How and when does this friendship blossom into love? Does their family accept this alliance? Do Sarfaraz and Meghna end up together and have a happy end?

Review:

The story is that of college romance and I was sceptical about reading it. Will this be a good read? I thought. Now a days, I have developed an aversion for college romances. But The Colour of Love doesn't belong to that category. I must say I enjoyed reading every page of this book.

The narration is lucid and simple. Readers will instantly connect with the characters. The characters have been developed well. However, I feel that some characters could have been involved more. It was more like a character entered, played his role and left. I feel they deserved some more space. Also, this would have lengthened the story. The flow of the events have been very nicely done. The transition between the present and the past could have been brought out in a better way.

This story proves that no matter what the time is, what the situation is, true love finds its way against all the odds. It teaches you that you cannot force yourself to love someone. Love just happens.

Love has no boundaries. It doesn't care for religion, caste and creed. We mustn't bother about these differences and accept love the way it comes.

The Colour of Love is a perfect book to spend time with on weekends. I am sure you'll have a good read.

I rate:
Cover: 3/5
Characters: 3/5
Story: 3/5

My overall rating for The Colour of Love is 3/5 stars.

Book Review - The Speaking Ghost of Rajpur

Book Name: The Speaking Ghost of Rajpur

Author: Priyonkar Dasgupta

Publisher: Thought Balloon Books

Blurb:

It is the early 1990's - the 'picturesque' small-town of Rajpur is in 'full summer bloom' and there is a definite sense of mystery in the air. Amidst its scenic setting each year a group of boys band together to spend their summer vacations - going cycling to far-off forests, sharing books, discussing everything under the sky and ogling at girls... But as youth would have it, their curious minds are more inclined to seek adventure and (hopefully!) uncover some mysterious affair. However, unlike their previous vain attempts, this time certain unusual events and the sudden appearance of a curious case of a ghost in their midst seem to hold the promise of some real adventure. In the pages of The Speaking Ghost of Rajpur rest assured that you will soon be whisked off and plunged into a headlong journey of adventure and romance of your own - on a path of discovery of friendship and brotherhood, of life and love - and, who knows, you might even encounter the Speaking Ghost itself!

Review:

Best read while traveling..

I always carry a literary read with me on my journeys, something which you don't have to put a lot of thought to while reading, and find it to be the most enjoyable way to pass the time. If you really like what you are reading, you get totally engrossed in the novel, and no matter how long it takes to reach your destination, you will never get bored. So this time while going for vacation, I picked up this recently launched fiction “The Speaking Ghost of Rajpur”, written by Priyonkar Das.

I personally had a wonderful time reading this amazing novel. I was finding it difficult to put down this interesting book and due to continue read I was delve deeper into the plot, away from the troubles of the mundane everyday life.

I started off with the first chapter and my interest grew as I traversed the pages. Each chapter made me eager to know the further part of the story.
The incidents have been described so well that you can actually picturize it happening. There is a personal touch in the narration which makes reading a pleasant experience. It reminded me of the days I visited my grandmother and played with my cousins and their neighbors. The flow of events in the story has been smooth and the reader doesn’t feel lost anywhere. The climax of this novel steals all your attention and is a surprising one.

I would say it’s one of the best read while traveling.

Recommendation:

Overall, The Speaking Ghost of Rajpur is a wonderful treat for thriller lovers.

I rate it with 4/5 stars.
